Go Back to China (2019) is a heartfelt comedy-drama written and directed by Emily Ting. Sasha (Anna Akana), a spoiled trust-fund fashion school dropout in Los Angeles, gets cut off financially by her wealthy Shenzhen toy-manufacturer father (Richard Ng). Forced to return to China and work in the family factory for a year to earn back her inheritance, she clashes with her hardworking half-sister Carol (Lynn Chen) and slowly confronts her own entitlement, cultural disconnect, and complicated family dynamics.Blending humor with honest family tension, the semi-autobiographical film explores themes of privilege, identity, and reconciliation against the backdrop of modern China’s booming manufacturing world.
